The ventral
stream is responsible for perception of where the objects are in absolute
allocentric or absolute space (Allard, 2001). Allocentric space involves
the perception of where objects are in absolute space. Perception
of allocentric space gives information about the location of objects with
respect to each other. For example, where the pots are kept in your
kitchen. Perception of allocentric space implies that all identities
of relevant objects must be coded or remembered (Allard, 2001). The
ventral system is necessary for conscious processing in order to perceive
objects and identify what they are. The ventral stream is responsible
for object identification and recognition, remembering spatial location
and producing verbal reports. More information about the ventral
stream is illustrated here.
